The inverter communicates with the DTU gateway via powerline communication (PLC) through your electrical wiring; the gateway then connects to Wi-Fi and Hoymiles' S-Miles Cloud platform.

This gateway requirement is the main practical friction point with Hoymiles. The DTU-WLite costs approximately £35–50 and must be purchased in addition to the inverter. Budget Option: Hoymiles HMS-600W
