We don't own every STREAM model. This guide aggregates EcoFlow's official specifications, independent reviews and owner reports from UK and German forums (where balcony solar is years ahead), cross-checked in July 2026. Prices are indicative — EcoFlow runs sales almost continuously, so treat every figure as "on the day we checked".

Every grid-tied model in the EcoFlow STREAM series caps AC output at 800W in software to align with the UK's simplified-notification target. Higher figures are the hardware ceiling, usable off-grid or under a standard G98 application. Solar panel input figures assume your panels can actually deliver rated wattage — on a UK balcony they usually can't, which is why a bigger solar system on paper matters less than orientation.

The UK rules wrinkle nobody mentions

The DESNZ Plug-in Solar Device Interim Product Specification (published 23 June 2026) explicitly excludes devices with built-in battery storage from its simplified pathway — it covers inverter-only systems up to 800VA. Battery STREAM units are still legal to buy and use, but they don't fit the interim spec as drafted, so the standard G98 notification route applies and future rules may treat them differently. If strict box-ticking compliance matters to you today, the battery-free STREAM Microinverter is the safest choice in the range.

What's True of Every STREAM Model

Some things don't vary by model, and reviewers keep hitting the same three notes. First, the good: the EcoFlow app is genuinely the best in the category — real-time monitoring of each solar panel via its MPPT channel, smart-tariff scheduling and AI-driven self-consumption optimisation that competitors haven't matched. Add EcoFlow's smart plugs and the system tracks individual appliance loads, releasing stored solar power to match what your home is actually drawing — a poor man's smart meter, and honestly the cleverest part of the whole ecosystem. Installation is as plug-and-play as advertised, and the fanless designs are silent.

Now the recurring gripes. Every unit ships with a Schuko (EU Type F) plug, so UK buyers need an adapter — a baffling oversight for products actively marketed here. The app is cloud-dependent: if EcoFlow's servers have a bad day, so does your monitoring (the hardware keeps generating). And EcoFlow's pricing is chaos — the same unit can move £200–£350 between promotions, so never pay full RRP; another sale is genuinely always coming.

The Elephant in the Room: STREAM 2 Is Coming

At Intersolar Europe on 22 June 2026, EcoFlow announced the second-generation range: the STREAM 3000, STREAM 5000 and STREAM AC 5000, plus 3 kWh and 5 kWh expansion batteries. The 5000 is a different class of product: 5.02 kWh of storage, four MPPT inputs accepting 1,250W each (5,000W of panels total), up to 3 kW discharge on the UK spec, 10,000-cycle rated life and a 10-year warranty. The units stack vertically, and the range is backwards-compatible with Gen 1 STREAM kit.

What this means practically: if the Ultra X's 3.84 kWh already tempts you towards "proper home battery" territory, it's worth waiting a couple of months to see UK STREAM 2 pricing. If you want a modest balcony setup now, Gen 1 discounts should only deepen from here — buy on a sale and enjoy it.

What is the difference between the EcoFlow STREAM Ultra and Ultra X?

The solar hardware is identical — both have 4 MPPT inputs and accept up to 2,000W of panels. The Ultra X doubles the battery to 3.84 kWh (vs 1.92 kWh) and weighs 38.8 kg vs 23.1 kg. If you want to store a full sunny day's generation or shift cheap overnight tariff units, the Ultra X is worth the premium; if you mostly self-consume as you generate, the Ultra does the same job for less.

Which EcoFlow STREAM model should I avoid?

The STREAM Max is hard to recommend. It cannot discharge off-grid from its AC outlet, so in a power cut your stored energy is inaccessible, and it has the lowest solar input (1,000W) and fewest MPPT inputs of the battery models. The STREAM Pro costs around £100 more and removes all three limitations.

Does the STREAM AC Pro connect to solar panels?

Not directly. The AC Pro has no MPPT inputs — it charges from a plug socket, or from solar via a separate microinverter such as the STREAM Microinverter. It's designed for adding storage to an existing setup, or for battery-only tariff arbitrage with no panels at all.

What is the EcoFlow STREAM 2 (STREAM 3000/5000)?

Announced at Intersolar Europe on 22 June 2026, the second-generation range comprises the STREAM 3000, STREAM 5000 and STREAM AC 5000 plus 3 kWh and 5 kWh expansion batteries.
